Orbit Down Privacy Policy

Orbit Down is designed to be free, ad-free, private, and useful without an account. This policy explains what the app stores, what it does not collect, and how optional Apple services are used.

Data Stored By The App
Orbit Down stores the countdowns, collections, tags, notes, symbols, colors, widget preferences, reminders, completion history, templates, palettes, backups, and optional photo background references that you create. This data is stored on your device by default.
iCloud sync remains off until you explicitly enable it. Before the first upload, Orbit Down explains what will be transferred and asks for your consent. When enabled, each countdown, saved palette, and saved template is uploaded as an individual record in your private Apple CloudKit database, and selected photo backgrounds are uploaded as private CloudKit assets. This includes titles and dates in countdowns imported from Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders. Device-local source identifiers used to refresh those imports are not included in CloudKit payloads. Orbit Down does not use legacy iCloud Key-Value Storage or iCloud Documents. The developer does not operate an account system or backend service, cannot access your private CloudKit records, and does not collect your synced content. Synced data remains within the Apple account you use for iCloud.
Apple Permissions
- Calendar: Used only when you import or refresh events as countdowns, or explicitly add countdown targets back to Calendar. If you separately enable iCloud sync, the resulting countdown details are uploaded to your private Apple CloudKit database after the iCloud consent prompt.
- Reminders: Used only when you import or refresh dated reminders, or explicitly add countdown targets to Reminders. If you separately enable iCloud sync, the resulting countdown details are uploaded to your private Apple CloudKit database after the iCloud consent prompt.
- Contacts: Used only when you import or refresh birthdays or anniversaries. Orbit Down reads only the contact name and dated birthday or anniversary fields needed for that action. If you separately enable iCloud sync, the resulting countdown name and date are uploaded to your private Apple CloudKit database after the iCloud consent prompt; the device-local Contacts identifier is not uploaded.
- Notifications: Used to schedule reminder notifications you configure.
- Photos: Orbit Down uses Apple's system photo picker. The app receives only the image you explicitly select and does not request broad Photo Library access.
These permissions are optional and remain under your control. You can review or revoke them in System Settings > Privacy & Security. You can also change notification access in System Settings > Notifications. Core countdown creation works without Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Photos, or notification permission.
Backups And Sharing
Orbit Down can export backups, portable countdown files, calendar invite text, Markdown summaries, plain-text summaries, QR codes, and share-card images when you choose those actions. Exported files are controlled by you and the destination you select.
Retention And Deleting Data
Local countdown data is retained on a device until you delete individual countdowns, choose Settings > Erase Local Data, or uninstall Orbit Down. Exported backups and shared files remain wherever you chose to save or send them until you delete them there.
If iCloud sync is enabled, deleting an individual synchronized countdown removes that record through Apple's normal CloudKit synchronization. Settings > Erase Local Data removes the local copy and turns off sync on that device without erasing remote data. The separate Settings > Delete iCloud Data action permanently deletes all Orbit Down records and photo assets from your private CloudKit database, keeps local data on the device, and turns sync off. The developer cannot view or delete records in your private CloudKit database on your behalf.
